D-Day 80 Torchlight Procession & Beacon Lighting

Thursday 6th June 2024
21:00

On Thursday 6 June 2024, Lyme Regis will commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Normandy Landings in 1944 with a torchlight procession followed by the lighting of a beacon.

The D-Day landings of 6th June 1944 was the largest seaborne invasion in history. Along with the associated airborne operations, it marked the beginning of the liberation of France and western Europe. We should all remember and never forget the selfless sacrifice and courage of all those involved and use this commemoration to pay our tribute to those who gave so much to secure the freedom we all enjoy today.

Join in the torchlight procession which will start from the Gin Shop on the Cobb at 9pm and proceed along the seafront to Cobb Gate and Gun Cliff where a beacon will be lit at 9.15pm (approx), representing the ‘light of peace’ that emerged from the darkness of war.

Torches cost £6 for adults and Children’s LED foam batons £4.
