The Procession Route

  • Leave Holmbush Car Park (after instruction from the Carnival Procession Co-ordinators);
  • Turn right into Pound Street;
  • Right into Broad Street;
  • Through Cobb Gate Car Park;
  • Along Cart Road East; up a (steep) slope to the Marine Parade;
  • Through the western barrier to a narrow part of the Marine Parade;
  • Turn left into Cobb Square; around the traffic island and up Cobb Road;
  • No vehicles will be allowed to access Monmouth Beach Car Park without prior permission.

Care of your group

  • Nominate a adult member to co-ordinate your group’s welfare.
  • Ensure that the medical needs of your group are met.
  • Maintain your position in the parade (don’t allow gaps to occur).
  • The consumption of alcohol or drugs in the procession is prohibited.
  • Follow the instructions of the Carnival Stewards.

For vehicle entries

  • Vehicles need to be supplied with a marshal – this is someone who will walk alongside the vehicle in the procession, a short safety briefing and high vis jacket will be supplied before the parade commences.
  • Ensure that the driver of any vehicle has a copy of this information.
  • No-one gets on or off a vehicle whilst it is moving.
  • Anyone travelling on a vehicle or float must do so safely through the provision of securely attached seats with belts, handrails, webbing, or harnesses as applicable.

Where generators are being used

  • Ensure that they are compatible with the power output of your music system and situated away from combustible material.

Crowd safety

Some parts of the route are heavily congested and difficult to manoeuvre. Procession marshals should ensure safe passage of their vehicles and participating members through these areas.

Please:

  • Ensure that your moving vehicle is positioned well away from the kerb as there is a danger of people falling or being pushed into the road.
  • Allocate responsible adults to walk either side of vehicles through congested areas.
  • Keep up the flow of the procession. Gaps are extremely hazardous as they allow spectators to cross the road between procession vehicles.
  • DO NOT encourage spectators into the road by handing out leaflets or gifts from your float.
  • DO NOT encourage coin throwing. This can cause injury – particularly to the eyes and to young children.
  • Keep children together and away from moving vehicles and ensure that they are supervised throughout.

Collecting money

Thank you for collecting money for our local good causes. Money should only be collected in the sealed Carnival Buckets (obtainable from the Carnival Team at the start) which should be taken to the Jubilee Pavilion on the sea front at the end of the procession.
