We are delighted to announce Carnival Week 2024 was a huge success with profits of over £19,000 to distribute to local good causes, an increase of £2,000 on our 2023 figure.
Following a firework display on Friday 2nd August, the week kicked off with a Torchlight Procession which saw hundreds of torchbearers make their way through Langmoor and Lister Gardens on to the sandy beach where a giant ring of fire was formed.
A week of family friendly events followed including bingo, welly wanging, egg catching, a dog show, candles down the river, duck race, a beach treasure hunt, a junior Town Crier competition, beat the goalie, pavement art, wacky wheelbarrow race and a DJ night at the Marine Theatre before the Grand Carnival Procession on Saturday 10th.
Chairman of the Regatta and Carnival team, Alan Vian said, “The week was a massive success and it was wonderful to see so many local people and visitors enjoying Carnival Week events. The atmosphere in town for the procession was amazing and it was great to see so many local organisations taking part.
"I would like to say a big thank you to all the wonderful volunteers who came along to help, without volunteers Carnival Week would not happen."
Organiser Rob James said: "We are delighted to have raised more money than last year which will be distributed to local good causes.
“I’d like to thank our primary sponsors Lyme Bay Holidays and Toad Hall Cottages plus Lyme Regis Town Council for supporting the fireworks display at the start of the week. In addition we're grateful to the wonderful local business sponsors including: Alexandra Hotel, Baboo Gelato, Beach & Badger, Beautifully Baked by Charlene, Bertie & Basil, Bright Future Financial, Good Food Cafe & Deli, The Harbour Inn, Harry May Boat Trips, Herbies, Hook Farm, Jurassic Properties, Kitson & Trotman, Lyme 1 Hotel, Lyme Regis Amusements, Lyme Regis Marine Aquarium, Lyme Regis Stays, Lyme Rib Rides, Newlands Holiday Park, Poco Pizza, Rock Point Inn, Rob Perry Marine, The Royal Lion Hotel, Scott Rowe Solicitors, SWIM, Tom's, The Oyster and Fish House, The Royal Standard, The Slipway, Westwood House and all the other businesses who provided a prize for our bingo or raffles.
